DESCRIPTION:  MOUNTAIN CLIMBING ON THE HUAYNA POTOSÍ MOUNTAIN

Day 1: La Paz - Base Camp

We will pick you up from your hotel in La Paz at 09:00 to drive to the Paso de Zongo Refuge, a 2-hour drive to the base camp. On the way we will pass by the small Milluni lagoon.

Once we arrive at the base camp refuge (4,720m), we will have a short break and settle into the mountain hut, then we will start a 40-minute walk up the glacier to practice climbing and get used to the altitude; after the climbing practice, we will return to the base camp mountain hut, where we will spend the night.

Overnight at base camp lodge.

Day 2: Base camp - High camp

Today, after a good breakfast, we start our ascent to "Campo Alto" at 5000m. The route is well marked and leads to a prominent moraine edge where we will find our lodge at 5000m.  After a short break we will start to check our equipment. We will have an early lunch and try to get some rest to be refreshed when we start our ascent to the summit the next day.

Night in high camp.

Day 3: Attempt to reach the summit - return to base camp and La Paz

After a very early breakfast (around midnight) we will start climbing up the glacier, aiming for the east face and reaching the Pala. We will then continue all the way to the top, reaching the summit of Huayna Potosi (6080m) after about six hours of climbing. Once at the top, we'll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Andes and the sun rising in the east. After a while we start to descend, arriving back at "Campo Alto" and then on to base camp, where our vehicles will be waiting to take us back to La Paz.
