This spectacular expedition is a guided climbing trip, in Cordillera Real with ascents a series of progressively and more demanding peaks. It is mandatory to have a good level of fitness and recommended to spend some time in La Paz, Titicaca Lake for example to obtain acclimatization to the altitude, before to challenge the mountains.

DAY 1: Departure in regular flight towards La Paz

DAY 2: La Paz-Titicaca Lake and Sun Island

At 07:00am departure from La Paz, with our transportation driving in northwest direction across the Altiplano. On the way you will see an impressive view of the Cordillera Real, and the Titicaca Lake. After three and a half hours, we will arrive at Copacabana, an emblematic and spiritual center. Upon arrival in Copacabana, in addition to visiting this charming town, you will visit its imposing cathedral that shows Mudejar influences in its design, with whitewashed stone walls and multiple domes decorated with deep blue tiles and seeing its famous Virgin of Morena.

Then we start a boat ride towards the Isla del Sol (approximately 1 hour sailing), once we arrive to the Sacred Island, we will have a typical lunch and enjoy the magnificent scenery, your day will end with a final hike to our lodge in the village of Yumani (approximately 2 hours uphill).

DAY 3: Sun Island - Copacabana – Chiarcota lake

After breakfast, you will be ready to start a trek (30 minutes) through Yumani, walking on Inca steps and visiting the Fountain of Eternal Youth, you will return to Copacabana by boat, at this point you will be ready to continue the transfer into the heart of the Cordillera Real, we arrive at the end of the road in the town of Tuni Condoriri, where the mules that we will use to transport our equipment to the base camp will be waiting. After an hour and a half of walking, we will arrive at the site where we will install our tents at 4600m.

Day 4: Acclimatization day hike up Cerro Austria at 5.000m

From our camping site, we’ll exit the valley of Condoriri as we continue on towards the top. It will take us about 1½ to 2 hours to make it to Austria Peak (making it a 3 hour climb overall), steadily climbing in a switchback pattern until we reach the ridge which will take us to the top. Once at the top, you’ll be treated to striking views of peaks of Condoriri Range, the left flank of Condoriri Peak with its glacier, and on a clear day also you will see the Huayna Potosí glacier. You’ll find that the hike is not difficult; many consider it to be an excellent trekking for acclimatizing prior to tackling other peaks. Then we descend to our camping site. Overnight Base Camp

Day 5: Cimbing skills review and instruction

Today we will move onto the glacier for review and instruction of roped team glacier travel and climbing techniques in ice. Overnight Base Camp

Day 6: Climb Pequeño Alpamayo (5.430m)

We will head to one of the prettiest peaks in the Condoriri range, “Pequeño Alpamayo” 5430m.

After an ascent to Tarija Peak 5300m and a descent into a scree, a slope of 200 mts and 50/55 degrees waiting for you to reach the top. Both of these peaks are classic, moderate glacier climbs, with beautiful views. Overnight Base Camp

Day 7: Climb Cerro Negro (5.320m) and return to La Paz

We climb the normal route of Cerro Negro, which is a 3-4 hours climb from the base camp. Return to base camp for lunch. We pack all our belongings and finally we will hike out of, what has been our home for the last four nights, Condoriri base camp. We will drive back to La Paz for the night. Overnight La Paz

Day 8: High camp of Huayna Potosí (5.000m)

We leave from La Paz towards the base camp of Huayna Potosí, along our trip we will observe Milluni a ghost village. Once we arrive to base camp we will have our lunch, and after a break, we start our ascent to “Campo Alto”, situated at 5000 meters. The route is well marked and leads to an evident moraine edge where we will find our lodge. After a short break we begin to unpack and verify our mountain gear. We will eat early and try to get some rest in order to be refreshed when we commence our climb to the top, on the following day. Overnight High Camp

Day 9: Climb Huayna Potosí (6088m) and back to La Paz

After a very early breakfast (around midnight) we will begin heading up the glacier, aiming towards the east face and arriving to a place known as the “pala” or shovel. We then continue all the way to the top of Mt. Huayna Potosi (6080 meters), after about six hours of ascent. Once at the top we’ll be able to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Andes Mountains and the sun rising to the east. After a while at the top, we start descending arriving once again at “Campo Alto”, and then on to base camp where our vehicles will be waiting to drive us back to La Paz. Overnight in La Paz

Day 10: Rest day in La Paz

We suggest you to take an easy day and get prepared for the next days into the mountains. A good rest is recommended for all. Overnight in La Paz

Day 11: La Paz 3.600m – Base Camp 4.700m of the Illimani Mountain

We will leave La Paz toward the southeast on board our four-wheel drive. After approximately three hours of driving, we will get to a small town Cohoni; where we meet our muleteers and mules, ready to load our gear and start our ascent to the base camp. On the way we will see the colorful landscape of countryside; you will also enjoy tasty meals prepared by our cook. We camp at 4500m. Overnight in Base Camp

Day 12: Base Camp 4.700m – High camp 5.500m

Today our porters will help us with most of our gear. The hike goes all the way uphill until we reach our camping site at “Nido de Cóndores” (Condor’s Nest) at 5.500m. Approximately a 5 hour climb. From this point, we have the most fantastic views. In a clear day, other mountains such as the Huayna Potosi at 6.088m and even the Sajama at 6.500m can be seen far in the distance as well as Lake Titicaca. Overnight in High Camp

Day 13: High Camp 5.500m – Summit 6.462m –Base Camp 4.700m

An early start is recommended in order to reach the top of Illimani’s south peak before sunset. As we ascend we pass hefty crevasses that plunge into the deep. Here we will eventually reach our last real obstacle, a steep but small wall sloping 65º. After this last effort, the way up turns less steep, making it now a lot more probable that we will make it to the top. After a well-deserved break, at the top, we start climbing back down again. Day 14 :Base camp – Back to La Paz

We hike down to the small town of "Cohoni" where our transport will be waiting to drive us back to La Paz. Overnight La Paz
