The Cordillera Real is the best example of Los Andes, not only for its height, which in several peaks exceeds 6000 m., but for its geographical beauty, its arrogant mountains and its great glacial masses in a privileged setting. Pukina Travel invites you to challenge this snow-capped mountain.

We are experienced tour operators in adventure tours. We offer you the experience of professional mountain guides and all the necessary mountain equipment.

Enjoy the tasty and nutritious high-altitude meals. The first part of this expedition involves trekking around one of the most attractive areas of the Royal Andean Range, the Condoriri Group. To improve your acclimatisation in the mountains, the tour will start with a beautiful 3-day trek that connects the Huayna Potosí Mt.6088m, one of the most accessible 6000+ mountains in the world. However, never underestimate the altitude programme.

Day 1: Transfer from the airport to the hotel - meeting with the mountain guide.

Transfer from the airport to your 3* hotel. In the afternoon you will meet your guide and check your equipment for the following days. At 19:00 enjoy a welcome dinner in a cosy restaurant.

DAY 2: Approaching the Condoriri group, trekking

This trek is really interesting because it climbs up completely isolated mountains; the only time the silence of the mountains is disturbed is when passing llamas break the ice under their hooves, creating small rivulets as they make their way down to Lake Titicaca. From these heights, you can watch the silver light reflecting off the world's highest navigable lake, while trekking in the company of numerous llamas, the occasional alpaca (they are shy) and many smaller animals such as viscachas, lizards, ibises and gulls.

To get to this magical place you must first travel to a small village called "Plaza de llamas". It takes about an hour and forty-five minutes by car from La Paz. Here we will be met by our porters, who will carry all the necessary equipment on the backs of their llamas. The trek starts at an altitude of 4,300m where we will gradually ascend to 4,600m until we reach our first camp on the shores of the beautiful Chiara-Khota lagoon (3 hours trek).

Day 3: Chiara-Khota lagoon to the foot of the Maria Lloco glacier

An early wakeup call is well worth it as we watch the beautiful Andean sun rise over the snow covered mountains (great photo opportunities for enthusiasts). Today we will reach two mountain passes, observe part of the majestic Huayna Potosi Mt (6088m) and then start our climb to reach the first pass at 4850m, then we will start to descend very slowly and enjoy the landscape, after a short break we will get ready to reach the second pass at 4759m, from this point we will start to descend and find our camping area near Maria Lloco, camping at 4650m.

Day 4: Maria Lloco Glacier - Huayna Potosi base camp.

Today we will be able to observe lakes with inexplicably beautiful colours; around 12:30 we will arrive at the base camp of Huayna Potosi Mt. After a good lunch, in the afternoon we will start our practice on the old glacier with the help of our mountain guides (all of them have extensive experience with all kinds of different groups), so this afternoon you will get familiar with the equipment and practice on the glacier. After about 3 hours we'll return to the refuge to warm up and spend the night in the lodge.

Day 5: Base camp to high camp Huayna Potosi Mt.

After a good breakfast we start our ascent to "Campo Alto", 5000 metres. The route is well marked and leads to a prominent moraine ridge where we will pitch our tents and, after a short break, begin to check and verify the mountain equipment. We will have an early lunch and try to get some rest to be refreshed when we start our ascent to the summit.

Day 6: Attempt to reach the summit

After a very early breakfast (around midnight) we will start climbing up the glacier, aiming for the east face and reaching the "Pala". We will then continue all the way to the top of Huayna Potosi (6080m), a six-hour climb. Once at the top, we'll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Andes and the sun rising in the east. After a while we start to descend, arriving back at "Campo Alto" and then on to the base camp, where our vehicles will be waiting to take us back to La Paz. Transfer and hotel accommodation.
